Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a popular procedure that stimulates new collagen growth for smoother and firmer skin. It works on all skin colors and all areas of your body, though the face is the most commonly targeted area.

During a microneedling procedure, a member of the team at Integrative Wellness & Aesthetics uses a specialized tool with one or more tiny needles on its end to puncture your skin. They make the punctures at even intervals to spread the effect of the procedure evenly.

With each pinprick, your skin elicits a healing response in order to control for the new, tiny “wounds.” The new tissue that grows is rich in collagen, the fibrous protein that gives your skin much of its structure and declines as you age.

For an added effect, you can get your microneedling as part of a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facial. PRP is made up of the healing components of your own blood and can help speed up your recovery after microneedling.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

Many men and women rave about the way their skin looks just a couple of weeks after microneedling. You can get microneedling to reduce these and other common skin concerns:

  • Acne scars
  • Scars from surgery
  • Scars from injuries
  • Stretch marks
  • Large pores
  • Fine lines
  • Skin laxity
  • Sun spots

If you don’t have any specific blemishes to target, you can still benefit from microneedling. Many people report seeing an overall improvement in the way their skin looks and feels.

What should I expect during the recovery period after microneedling?

The recovery period after microneedling is short and easy to tolerate. If you require any downtime, it’s minimal and shouldn’t disrupt your life and normal schedule. You might notice a bit of redness for the first couple of days, and you should protect it from direct sunlight.

After 24 hours, you’re free to apply makeup. This can help cover up any remaining redness if you plan on going back to school or work right away. The procedure only takes about 30 minutes of your day, and you can go back to school or work the same day if you feel comfortable enough to do so.
